Students from Thailand emerged with the best run at Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2012 with a mileage of 2,903 km/l – the equivalent of driving from Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi.

Acknowledging the outstanding performance of this year’s student teams in an award ceremony, Shell Malaysia Country Chair Iain Lo said, “The level of energy and team spirit exuded in the pit and on the track has been truly amazing. It has shown that with team work, impressive results can be achieved. One can’t help but be optimistic that achieving smarter mobility is not too distant a dream, when our future is already thinking of solutions today.”

Team Luk Jao Mae Khlong Prapa of Dhurakij Pubdit University Thailand, which achieved the highest mileage of this year’s event, competed in the Prototype category running on Ethanol E100 and improved on its own 2011 mileage record of 2,213.4 km/l by more than 30 percent...

Winter is the bane of many drivers and we seem to be getting more and more severe weather conditions within the UK.

In fact motorist’s on the M40 near Oxfordshire recently had no choice but to abandon their cars and take to foot. It wasn’t much better on the M25 in Hertfordshire either, which was closed in both directions between Junctions 23 and 25, causing gridlock.

Elsewhere in the UK the weather conditions became so severe that some drivers found themselves stranded in their cars overnight. Even Tom Jones was caught up and told that he became stuck in the traffic for over seven hours. "We joined the back of a tailback, never realising we would be spending the night on the motorway," he said on the BBC News.

There is no way to guarantee that you won’t get stuck in the snow or ice but there’s plenty you can do to improve your chances of staying safe and comfortable...

Millions of female drivers will see an increase in their motor insurance premiums come Decemeber this year. The increase comes following a recent ruling from the European Court of Justice (ECJ) stating that they will no longer be able to treat women favorably when it comes to their insurance quotations.

The changes are due to come into effect on the 21st December 2012, falling in line with the new legislation that premiums must be "gender neutral". It seems though, that the vast number of insurance companies are waiting until the last minute before revealing the details of exactly how their premiums will change...

you may be aware that Car Leasing is growing more popular for both Business and Personal users. Everybody seems to be searching for alternative ways to drive a New Car without the massive outlay of a full purchase. Car Leasing allows you to Drive a Brand New Car without all the huge initial outlay, this gives you the opportunity to invest your funds in alternative projects or simply leave it in your Bank account.

From the beginning of a Car Lease to the end of the Car Lease, the car remains the property of the leasing company or Manufacturer although the Car Lease and the car itself will both be in person or business that is actually uses the vehicle. also the individual or company that uses the car is not responsible for selling it. When the car lease deal is finished the person is free to walk away or take out a new Car lease on another New Car

New lease of life: Vehicle Leasing can save you money in one simple way...by avoiding the instant lose of money the first time you drive the vehicle. In recent years the recession has puts the brakes on car sales and now some motor manufacturers are increasingly allowing better terms and putting more faith into Vehicle Leasing Schemes.

Vehicle leasing gives drivers who want a new car another option:-

The driver can still specify the colour and any extras they want, but rather than buying, they Lease (Rent) it for an agreed period, typically two or three years. This can prove cheaper in the short term than borrowing to fund a purchase. And with used car prices dropping too, this policy may not be as short-sighted as it seems...

You may remember a few weeks back that we reported on the UK bid to break the 1,000mph mark in a land speed record (http://www.firstcall-leasing.co.uk/blog/british-supersonic-car-tests-successful), but now an Australian crew have launched their very own bid to compete against the Brits, and have vowed to “blitz” their Bristish Rivals.

Rosco McGlashan, a daredevil drag-racer, believes that his machine is faster than a bullet. He is also aiming to break the 1,000mph target using rocket technology to propel his 200,000-horsepower supercar, the Invader 5R. The Australian bid is to take place also in 2014, the same year as the British attempt, setting up a showdown dubbed as the “Land-Speed Ashes” between the two sporting rivals.

McGlashan was inspired to become the World’s fastest man on wheels at the age of 12 when he saw Campbell going at 403 miles...

So here it comes again, frosty mornings.

Everyone hates winter mornings, especially drivers. From the moment of climbing out of the warmth and safety of the bedcovers right through to venturing out in the cold to make that long tedious journey to school or work. People lining the sides of the roads and driveways armed with a scraper, de-icer or even a kettle, all sporting hats, gloves and pink noses. No-one enjoys that early morning start in the cold to ready their car for work. What's more is that motorist's who fail to completely clear their windscreen before setting off could now be even facing points on their license.
