Described by the manufacturer as a car which blends coupe looks with 4×4 style, MPV practicality and hatchback costs, this is a crossover to rival the Nissan Qashqai. It arguably looks even more sporty than its rival, thanks to its double grille and aggressive headlights...

The VW Amarok is a four-wheel-drive pick-up that's aimed at builders, farmers and general outdoor-pursuit fans. It's now available with a 178bhp 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine and the latest eight-speed automatic gearbox.

There's no denying the forcefulness of the Amarok's engine. It produces 177bhp and 310lb ft of torque, so pulls eagerly, delivering purposeful acceleration and strong overtaking muscle. It's a good deal more efficient than its rivals too, when you consider a Nissan Navara or a Toyota Hilux require 2.5-litre engines to produce similar power...

The Audi A6 Avant BiTDI is the company's first direct rival to the BMW 535d Touring. It is the most powerful A6, and it's designed to carry five adults and a great many of their possessions very quickly indeed whilst still offering a modicum of economy. The A6 Avant BiTDI's 3.0-litre diesel engine is equipped with two turbos and generates 309bhp and 479lb ft of torque, matching the 535d Touring's power output and beating its torque by 14lb ft and all of this oomph is transferred direct to the road via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

So what is the 2012 Audi A6 Avant BiTDI like to drive? There are no external visual clues that...

There’s no mistaking the Audi Q5, thanks to that huge grille and the well-known four-ringed badge. The LED daytime running lights are another giveaway, along with the crease in the flanks that runs the entire length of the car. You’ll search in vain for styling gimmicks, because Audi likes to keep its cars rationally low-key. But that’s not to say the Q5 has a boring design, as there are plenty of great details such as the LED rear lights and neatly integrated rear spoiler...

It was the muscle car that stole the hearts and imaginations of people everywhere, providing subject matter for wall posters, T-shirts, and songs for four decades. Now it's back, better and mightier than ever and ready to reclaim its place of honour on European roads and bedroom walls alike.

The all-new 432PS V8 Chevrolet Camaro has returned to Europe after a decade-long absence with a design that is at once instantly recognisable and entirely modern.

Many will already have seen this car feature in the hugely popular Transformers films franchise and for that reason alone...

The Nissan 370Z looks so much better in three dimensions than it does in pictures. It looks every bit the red-blooded sportscar. The headlights give the car a contemporary twist and hugely flared rear wheel arches remind you this is a powerful rear-wheel drive sportscar...

When Toyota came to replace the Corolla, it decided that the new car needed a brand new name to show how diverse and exciting it could be. Then we were introduced to the Toyota Auris. It isn’t much different, nor is it any more visually exciting. Face lifted early in 2010, the Japanese family hatchback adopted a new front bumper with a redesigned grille and a reprofiled rear...

The Audi A8 has had plenty of criticism thrown at it for its staid styling, that makes it look simply like a scaled up Audi A4 saloon. The Jaguar XJ, in contrast, makes a big impact thanks to its bold exterior, and makes the sober-looking A8 appear dull. Long wheelbase versions are 130 millimetres longer, giving rear passengers plenty of extra legroom.

The inside of the A8 is a revelation. It features a mixture of traditional wood, leather and more modern materials, such as aluminium. There are swathes of wood everywhere you look, but it is executed in such a finely crafted and tasteful way, that it looks fantastic. All of the controls are weighted, feel solid and built to last, with exquisite attention to detail.

The A8 is similar in size to...

The days when estate cars were boxy and dull are long gone. To many people’s eyes, the Audi A6 Avant is actually a better looking car than the saloon version. With its steeply sloping rear windscreen, strong shoulder line and taut surfaces the A6 looks muscular and sporty, and it’s not just in looks alone, it actually is. The confident Audi grille and intricate headlights add to the assertive character. That’s especially true of the S line model, which sits lower to the ground on larger alloys, and has LED running lamps set into the headlight design. The S6 variant takes things a step further, with a subtle roof spoiler, front and rear diffusers, black painted brake callipers and quad exhaust tail-pipes giving it an aesthetic fitting of its performance bent. Only taste separates the success of its looks when compared to the BMW 5 Series Touring and Mercedes E-Class Estate.

Very few manufacturers do interior design as well as Audi. There’s a solidity and quality to everything you see and feel which goes some way to...

It seems an odd thing to say about a modern German coupe, but the rear haunches of the Audi A5 look like they were inspired by an American muscle car. Its stunning side profile oozes power and speed. As one of the pioneers of the ultra-bright LED daytime-running lights, you’re sure to see the A5 coming from a long way off. But once it arrives, its appearance doesn’t screech, but impresses with its spotless, enduring lines. Updated in 2011, the A5 now has an even tidier headlight design, with more flawless LED integration. Body panels have been delicately changed too, both to bring the A5 up-to-date and allow it to cut through the air more efficiently...
