Fiat was established on the 11th July 1899 by a number of European investors. In 1902, Giovanni Agnelli became the managing director of the company and shortly after this the company opened it's first factory. In 1916, Fiat started construction of it's Lingotto factory and this became the largest factory in Europe. It occupied five floors and had a futuristic test track on the roof. It soon became the emblem of the Italian automotive industry and it's construction was finally completed in 1922.
